Last year I only had one goal, to be published. Though when I first made the goal, I hadn't yet conceived of the story that became my first release, Naughty List, which barely snuck in under the deadline on Christmas Eve.
But this year I want to accomplish more. And I've decided in order to do that I need an accountability partner. That's where you come in dear blog readers. I will be accountable to all of you. I'll post here my wins and losses, my progress towards my goals. My first goal is to blog here every Monday.
My second goal is to make consistent progress. I will work on 3 pages every day. Either write or revise them. I think 3 pages is something I can accomplish every day, regardless of what else might be going on. To keep making continual progress on any work, to keep moving towards complication.
By the advice of someone else, I bought a calendar, and I'm going to put an X on every day I complete this goal. I hope by doing so I'll motivate myself to keep going.
My third goal is to submit something every month. I have several works, in several stages of editing and revision, but none I feel comfortable enough to submit at this moment. I haven't submitted anything since I received my acceptance for Naughty List. With this goal I hope to motivate myself to finish up these works, and get a few more releases on my calendar.
Notice I said submit, not accepted or published. I would like to get three more titles out this year, but I’m not going to set a goal of getting any other works published. I believe submitting twelve new works should take care of that on its own.
My fourth goal is to read over fifty books this year. It’s a goal I have every year since college, and I complete it every year. My ereader has made it much easier to achieve. Not only do I have another book to read the second I finish one, but I can read it anywhere, waiting in line at the grocery store, waiting for my computer to start up, my lunch break.
Those are my professional goals the year. Stop by next Monday to see more about my goals and how far I’ve gotten to completing them.
